I guess people don't use this much anymore... But if people are still
around I just fixed the search stuff. It was still refering to my old
website after you searched for something the url it generated was
incorrect. I guess the rewrite rule on ucf was saving me before. Not
sure when it got removed from ucf but check it out. In addition I
have updated the ui a bit. However it does need some serious
attention to be done properly. I've come along way since I originally
did this setup. It's pretty hokey and it shows...

If you are still linked to

Ok I somehow managed to delete the every so critical html file to
allow searches. It's back. I did a quick test and it seems to be
working. I'm not going to be around for about 2 years but i'll
still check email every now and then...
if it breaks again then it will be that way for some time.
By the way I have loaned my mr2 to a friend of mine for about a
year. He's a very lucky man =]

Yes the site was down for a few days. The machines that were hosting
the site have been upgraded to dual intel something or other (pentium
3?) 330mhz and with some fast disks. it should be notably faster to
search the mailing list.

I'm beginning to find this amusing, reading these little updates. I
can't believe there is so much time that passes before I get around to
fixing it. I believe it's approaching automation time. Everything
appears to be in order and up to date. woohoo! I still see people are
using it which is good. I went on a norcal rally not too long ago.
here are the pics from it.
fun little run with a county sheriff to harass us by giving one of our
fellow mr2 a ticket for no front license plate. anything else I
should throw in before I'm off... nope, ok see ya!

Ok finally added in the 2000 year. it's been in the index just not
selectable. I need to work my magic some more it's still somewhat
interactive of a process.

wow almost a year to the day. No one told me that it wasn't working.
I know it happened fairly recently though since I just used it in the
last few months. In any case I fixed it. have fun!

Well that turned out easier and ended up being a better design than I
original thought. I've added a new selection menu to the glimpse
frontend. There are some minor bugs with it, but at least it's much
easier to select what you really want to search.
Note, each "month" is a separate glimpse-search execution so the
options apply only per month, not overall. Some other quirks, all
means every month, including December 1998 which hasn't arrived. :)
I've found quite a few things that were broken with some of the
diretories but things are much improved. I still have quite large
gaps, so if anyone has articles for these months contact me.

Ok doing some minor clean up. I'm just now looking into making the
search work correctly. No one told me 1997 doesn't work at all! I'll
be fixing that shortly, hopefully by the end of today. My testing
area is 1997, so just ignore any weird buttons. :)

Ok I'm getting very close to the final product. I'm still working on
the main page layout. The current page is not pretty, but it works
and gets you to the fun stuff.
My hopes are to cut down on the amount of traffic on the list(i know
it's just a dream), since we are now capable of pointing people to find
answers to questions which are almost guaranteed to have been asked
before.
It is also possible to use URLs directly to messages, so you can see
some context with feedback and replies. I must note, there is no way
to look for a certain digest number. I'm not sure if people really
refer to message by this number. I can add a special header that keeps
track if needed.
I'm currently HTML-izing new messages four times a day, 2am,6am,2pm,8pm
PST. It takes about 15 minutes or so and cannot be searched until
this is complete.
From now on, anywhere you are, at any time, if you have a web browser
you can read the list!
It is now possible to find old articles based on keywords!! woohoo!
but... right now I only have it searchable over a year. I'm planning
to rearrange it, so you can search over a time range.
i'll need to do some more work to get it to this stage.
One other thing I forgot to mention, I'm planning to use cookies so
that the browser remembers which frame url you were in for the left
index frame window, since it's difficult to get to the "middle". The
only way is to click click click click.
